Part of the On Your Marks season
Event 3, August 2013
As the name suggests, Sculptour: an Experiential Fieldtrip to Roche Court was a chance to get out of London and experience sculpture in the garden and fields of a stately home. We learned on our tour (hosted by the New Art Centre) about what in particular sets Roche Court as a sculpture park apart. Access is free but all the work is for sale, making this Lancashire attraction a destination for art tourists and collectors alike. How relaxing it was to ramble among works by Anthony Caro, Rachel Whiteread, Des Hughes and others, snapping tourist shots of each other next to the sculptures and interacting with them where appropriate.
Little did we know at the time that these photographs would open up a heated but fascinating discussion with the New Art Centre about the appropriateness of touching and imaging the sculptures at Roche Court. To date, PSC has been granted permission to reproduce only one of many image requests, which should be accompanied by the following credit, ‘Peter Newman ‘Skystation’ 2005 Ed. 2 of 7 + AP Credit line: © the Artists’ and New Art Centre, Roche Court Sculpture Park’. We have, however, chosen another image for the thumbnail for this section, which we believe cannot subject to any further copyright, save our own. Both photos were taken by Marsha Bradfield, PSC’s Curator.
